I have a 66 Vette Block L72 dated 3-18-66.
I am looking at purchasing a 42 AMP 1100696 alternator.
I have a choice of two (2) that are available.
One is dated 6B11 (1966 Feb 11th)
One is dated 6C29 (1966 March 29th)
The car will never go to be judged by NCRS so perfection is not a worry however I would like the alternator to blend in with the engine date.
Which dated AMP would fall in line with the engine date of 3/18/66.
Go with a month earlier date or a date that is a week and a half later?
Appreciate any and all feed back
The car was built May 29th, 1966
having a block dated two months prior raises a flag for me. But I am with Larry on this. but typically parts liken the alt is dated about one to two weeks before the cars build date. it was a common unit shared among other chevy cars and trucks.
My MARCH 29, 66 car has an L79 block dated C76 (March 7th 66). My alt is dated early March also, I'd have to dig it out for the actual date. You say your car is May and not March?

I have to believe it would be an epic kick in the nuts to lose some coveted designation over a diode. Glove compartment bulb base composition? Ok. Casting date of the knibbling pin? I get it. But a diode date? That is tough.

When John Pirkle was alive and restoring alternators you got the correct dated diodes. Was he pricey, yes, but he was the cream of the crop.
Novice here.I do not understand your note...knibbing pin etc .My car is a real nice clean driver which is what I wanted. Bought it to enjoy the road. If I get caught in the rain going to a show I will just keep on driving in it. Unlike trailer queen owners I will not cry. Have no desire to have it checked out by anyone or organization. Just start and go.
My electrical system is fine and works well. I wanted to add some spare parts (jack w/handle, alternator, books/manuals), and small parts/pieces to what I have collected over the years including non Vette 60's cars. The price given to me for the 42 Amp working factory alternators is so low I could not pass them up hence my date question. No rebuilding to be done and do not want any to be done.
