Wow, that is just incredible, I am in complete awe and envy, what great photography of some real nice classics. Almost made me feel like I was back in the 50's and in high definition colour to boot., Thanks for posting
That's a fabulous comparison of the old and current shots from the same vantage point. Bravo!
Some history:
The original Ridge Route runs over the mountains from LA to Kern county and was constructed in the 1910s. We can see in that early photo that the original road was concrete and very narrow. In the 1920s they widened the road a bit by adding asphalt shoulders and straightening some of the many curves. You can see the asphalt in the current photo. The Ridge Route was bypassed in the early 1930s by the "Ridge Route Alternate" also known as highway 99, at the time a three lane highway. In the 1960s the Ridge Route Alternate was replaced by the modern interstate 5 that's still in use today.
Parts of both the Ridge Route (as you can see from the OP's and esema's photos) and the Ridge Route Alternate are drivable today, but you can no longer complete the entire trip on either one. These are both really fun roads to drive if you like this sort of history.
Again, OP and esema, thanks for posting these photos.
A bit of magic for my good buddies from the So CAL SACC back in Los Angeles. Especially for Evan (esema). Wish I could have been there in one of my floppy axle vettes.
Well done Don...well done. It was really a fun day. I thank my lucky stars for every day I get to drive the '61. Thanks for the magic time warp pic of the old with the "new"!
Great to see so many c1s together. I haven’t seen that many c1s together at any car show I have been to in the Denver area. My wife thinks I’m the most popular guy around with all the people waving at me when I’m in the ‘61.
That's awesome to see. Folks nearly dropped over here when I stopped by in my '60 at the local brew pub and another gent in a '58 pulled up. Nor nearly enough of these awesome rides out and around.

65hihp, I keep coming back to look at this photo.. It's amazing.. Whoever did this has mad graphics skills.
Everything lines up perfectly.
The ONLY thing that might make it cooler is to be in all black-and-white...
Even a hack like me can do that!
Yes Fred, my mad graphics whiz did it in B&W, and sepia, as well as the color & sepia. I liked that one best.....
I agree, it's an amazing image. Enjoy!
It's becoming more and more of a challenge to get a group of 53-62 (SORRY, I DO NOT do the C- stuff) Corvettes together at the same time-------------------------ESPECIALLY on the road.
A few years ago, on a Rt66 cruise, these cars came through Okla.
I led them from Tulsa to west of Okla City. Both pictures are sections of the original Rt66 in Okla.
This picture is the Round Barn in Arcadia, OK (NE of OKC) which was restored 20-30yrs ago.
This is an old multi-span steel truss bridge over the North Canadian River on the west side of Okla City. It still stands today and can still be driven across.
This is a group of 56-57s I managed to bring together in Tulsa, OK a few years ago. Four of them have FI.
