Default Engine Installation

I am about ready to install my rebuilt 327 in my 65 coupe. What items can I install with the engine out and still be able to comfortably fit the engine in the the car. Tranny is not attached to engine. I am hoping fuel pump, exhaust manifolds, water pump and power steering pump. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Bill - Whenever I've installed an engine in a midyear...or just about any old Chevy, I had to leave them all off since it was relatively easy to put them on after the block is down on the mounts. The water pump is only '4' bolts and easy to install afterwards but the PS pump and fuel pump could be in your way when trying to land the engine. On the flip side, you might hear from another Forum Member who's successfully installed an engine with just about all attachments already mounted...I never was that lucky.
**Just saw C2Scho's comment about installing the engine and trans together as one unit - I couldn't agree more on a smallblock setup.**

Default Engine Installation Techniques

I install an engine with a fuel pump and water pump but without exhaust manifolds or power steering pump. Also I find it much easier to install the engine and the transmission together as one unit. Others prefer installing them separately. Also no carburetor or distributor. Those come afterwards. Let us know how it goes. C.J.

I left my P/S pump in the car as I didn't want to disconnect the lines, but I put mine in with transmission, Water Pump, fuel pump and balancer pulley. I left the Exhaust manifolds off as I've always had a hard time getting my exhaust connected correctly.

I like to have as much of the engine assembled as possible before I drop it in. To that end, I install the transmission, fuel pump, distributor, and water pump ahead of time.

I hope this isn't considered hijacking the thread...but does the same hold true for a '61? I'm getting ready to install a small block with a Tremec TKX and hope to install it with the tranny.

That should be doable with a hoist and leveler.
