I just picked up my 64 coupe yesterday and I was wondering if the C2 frame is prone to cracks around the front lower control arm mounts like the C3? I have had cracks on my last two C3's and have had them welded up. May not be as big an issue with the earlier frames with the different style steering, but thought I would see if anyone has run into this?
Thanks
And because some one will post this thread is useless without a picture, here it is.
I've never heard of any issues like that with any C2 frames, unless it was used a lot on rough roads or something like that. I had a '64 for several years and never saw any cracks.
The frame can crack at the bottom of the passenger side front spring pocket. Both my 65 and my current 66 did that. Made the car pull left when you hit the gas hard.
There was some issue about how some of the frame stamping were assembled around the front spring pockets that varied or changed during production of C2 frames. One method of lapping the plates seemed to relate to eventual cracks in the area after much use - the other seemed relatively immune to the fatigue cracking. Except for these generalizations I don’t recall the exact details but a search should turn up the info as it used to come up fairly often.
