Looking on e-bay the other day and saw a trailer hitch for 61/62 vettes. guy said his dad bought it when he purchased his 62 NEW. I just think that it would be cool to show up at the river towing the jet-ski with the vette! not that I ever would but have any of you guys ever towed with a C1? Pics?

E.P.
Back in the old days when a 61 Vette was my only transportation, I pulled a wooden ski boat with mine. Wasn't many fiberglass boats then. Boy am I getting old. Anybody ever heard of a Dunphy? It was one of the fastest boats around in 1965. Guarenteed 55 MPH off the trailer! :seeya
When I bought mine in 1967, it had a "light duty" hitch on it, so I bought a 13' Scotty travel trailer; didn't require electric brakes because it weighed less than 1K pounds. Pulled the trailer well. I recall passing a '65 T-Bird coming DOWN one of the mountains outside of Ligonier (rte.30) rolling at 90mph (I was YOUNG & foolish THEN...as opposed to being OLD & foolish NOW  ). During the CB craze, I mounted a plate to the hitch & used it to stick the magnetic antenna on ;) . Finally took it off years ago; just saw it in the shed a few days ago.
I have, and still do, tow a jet boat to the lake ocassionally with my 56. I also have one of the little trailers with a hinged lid. The trailer is about the size as the one pictured above with the silver Vette. I use the trailer to carry luggage, chairs, icechest, tools, jack or whatever when on a road trip. I also have a towbar to fit the front of the 56. I went to a show in Tulsa in Sept and I towed the 56 behind the 70 Chevelle conv with the trailer behind the 56. Got a lot of looks going down the turnpike!
The hitch is sort of similar to the one pictured above. It was originally made for some other kind of car and all I had to do to adapt it to the 56 rear cross member was cut and drill 2 pieces of angle iron. I then had the 2 angles chromed to match the chrome hitch. It looks as if it were originally made for the 56.
Used mine for towing the race cars and ski boats since new. Get a long chain so the car is never in the water. Hook the chain over the ball and just drag it out of the water and rehook when your done. I used my Rotties dog chain which was heavy enough. Have fun! :D Oh yes, It also sturs up controversy on merely the application of the hitch amongst other Vette owners. There are a few Black 62`s around here and mine is always distinguishable from the rest by the Daytons and the hitch..................
There's one on E-Bay right now, with the auction ending 12/18, EXACTLY like the one I have; "search by number": 1874698884, current high bid = $41.
I MAY have to contact one of the losing bidders ;)

One on this car. :D  :flag The closeup picture of the hitch shows a really crude piece. Looks like it`s too deep, it would interfer with the spare tire housing. Mine is a hell of a lot smaller and surounds the license plate.
The previous owner of my C1 had a trailer hitch on it and used to tow an old wooden ski boat with it when he was in college. I didn't like the look of the trailer hitch, so I unbolted it and removed it.
