Default Air Filter Options

1961 2x4

Has anyone tried using a slightly taller air filter element for increased airflow? If so, what filter did you use?

I am not sure if this is even possible. I do not know how much extra clearance there is for a taller filter element.

Anyone?

I would suggest that the stock air filter will flow more air than that engine would ever need if in stock form.

The best test for this IMO is Toruń the car through the gears without an air filter and then again with the stock air filter. Use a stop watch to see if there is any difference as you can be fooled by the engine sound into THINKING it is faster. I f there is no significant difference you don’t need anything else.

That suggestion, along with the one just above it, are right on. Give it a go!
You have not stated WHY you think you need to increase the air flow. Are there specific symptoms that would lead you to believe your carb is not getting enough air flow?
As to your question on the element, there is not much extra room, in the air cleaner canister, for an enhanced element and there is barley enough clearance,, above the air cleaner for the hood to close.

I don’t believe there is any extra room for a taller filter. Another test for this would be either balled up tin foil or clay on the top front of the existing air filter which is the closest portion of the filter to the hood. When you close the hood and smash the foil or clay you will have the measurement of how much clearance you have available.
