My drivers side headlight bucket will not open or close with the switch. I cleaned the motor and bench tested. The motor turns freely with voltage applied on the bench. The bucket assembly turns freely when not attached to the motor. The thumb wheel turns easily when installed in the car. Any suggestions? Am i missing something??
Based on the information you gave, there are only two possibilities. The black wire that attaches to the radiator support for ground is not making connection, or BOTH the yellow wire and the green wire connections are bad (assuming the motor doesn't try to move in either the up or down switch position). Connect a jumper wire from the motor case to a known good ground and see what happens. I would also check very closely the two wire (green and yellow) connector that carries the voltage for up and down movement to the motor. Make sure it isn't corroded or broken loose from the wire bundle. If you have described the symptoms accurately, it can't be anywhere else besides that connection or the ground connection.
thanks Reno, I checked both ground and power. Both were good. Removed motor again and replaced gear and greased. It seems to be working great in the car....thanks for your reply
Thank you 65GGvert. I found all the wires to be good. I replaced the gear and regreased. Installed back in the car and is working great!!! Thank you for your response and guidance.
Kinda foolish question , but which beams are the low and which are the high beams . I replader dimmer switch and only the inner headlights work . Switched wires at dimmer switch and no difference , just inner lights . On my 65
Thank you ., Bob
Hi Bob, the outer lights are low beam. the inner 2 lamps are high beam.
The outer lamps are dual filament bulbs, low and high. The inner bulbs are high so when you're on high beam all four bulbs light up, on low beam only the two outer ones light up.
