[C2] vent window
Here is a thread on how I fixed my vent window. The window was not all the way in the frame so when you closed it it would catch the weatherstrip and not close all the way. It made a whistling noise that drove me nuts.
I did not want to go through the trouble of taking the frame out so this is what i came up with.
I carefully removed the window with two plastic pins rocking it back and fourth. It was the original tinted window so I was careful not to crack it. The rubber window seal was hardened so i scraped that off with a razor and cleaned up the inside of the track and the window.
Next I made this wooden frame that goes around the window frame . You will need this so that the front edge of the glass and the back of the wood are parallel so you can apply the clamps. The blocks are epoxied on to keep the wood from slipping off the window frame.
I applied the window seal around the window. I applied a piece of clear packing tape to the long edge of the window to hold the seal in place so I would not have to fight with it.. Only apply one piece to the seal will not get jammed.
I used a rag and coated the seal with kerosene. Kerosene will soften and lubricate the sealing material. Once it is installed it will evaporate so it is a good choice.
I pressed the window into place and them applied the clamps to pull it all the way in. Once the window was all the way installed I left the clamps on for about 1/2 hour.
I removed the clamps and wood and trimmed the excess with a razor.
It came out perfectly. Sweet.
Two tips. Do not stretch the material around the window to much. It is not really rubber, some sort of rubber like tar material and it rips easily. Buy a few pieces so you have it on hand if you mess one up.
I got the material from Paragon. It was the exact right thickness which is critical.
