Default engine decoding help

I am looking for some help in decoding this engine. The machine pad code of VIII8YS has me stumped. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Appears to be 67-70 327/ 220 HP 4 barrel with manual trans from a Chevy truck. The date code of the block will help define the year..........I cannot tell if it is an 8 or a 9 or a 0.

Info from the "Lime Book".

4 possibilities, TR is truck:

YS 66 327 220 4B,MT TR
YS 67 327 220 4B,MT TR
YS 68 327 220 4B,MT TR
YS 69 396 310 4B,MT TR

If that casting date is K176, then made in Flint in late 66 for a 67 327 220hp Chevy truck.

thanks, hard to say on the last digit...I believe it is a 0 though...based on that the block was cast 17 Nov 1970.

YS was only used through the 69 model year (396). According to the casting number and engine code, it's for a 67 truck. Sure looks like a 6 in the picture. Right side isn't rounded. Everything matches up for a 67 327 220hp Chevy truck.

The 657 block was only cast during the 1967 model year. The date code is K 17 6, November 17, 1966. It was assembled the next day.

Also, just an FYI, an engine code that starts with the letter 'V' (as opposed to the letter 'F') was for 1967 and later year engines.

Chevrolet used F for Flint through the 1966 model year, then change to the letter V to represent Flint starting in 1967. Not sure why.
