Default Shield, directional arm, plastic?

In replacing the turn signal switch in my 67 L79 (early), there is a small, flat piece of flat plastic with a rectangular hole in the center identified as “Shield, directional arm, plastic” that is sold with the switch. I bought one in case I needed it. After taking the old switch out, I just found the old shield on the floor.

I have looked at all of the books and cannot find where this piece is supposed to go. Anyone know the answer to this?

That sounds like the piece that goes on the turn signal arm at the opening on the side of the column inside. Dennis

Got another bump in the road. I got the upper bearing assembly on. Next is a fiber(.) washer, then a washer and the C clip. When I do it in that order, I cannot see the groove for the C clip. By any chance could it be the C clip first right next to the bearing, then the fiber washer then steel washer ?
