Back in my youth, I used to use Rislone to free up sticking lifters and it did a good job. Is there something better out there today?

As far as I know Risone is still good. MMO is truly marvelous.

A quart of ATF in the motor oil.......let idle for 20 minutes or so then drop it all out and change the filter as well. If that doesn't work substitute a quart of kerosene for ATF........DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR WITH KERO IN THE OIL, JUST LET IT IDLE!!!!!

Think I’ll try MMO first. Never used it but always heard good things about it. Probably ATF anyway.

Norm,

Rislonehas always had a good reputation as I recall and I would not hesitate to use their products. However, I've come to regard BG Products in very high regard in recent years. They've been around since the early 70's and I find their products in a lot of small repair shops as well as dealerships. Their products are not inexpensive, but the shop owners that I've talked to (that use them) say they are well worth the price. Here's one shops view that I found; My first experience with BG Products was about 5-years after buying a new '85 Corvette. The engine felt like there was a small stumble or hesitation when I accelerated. Admittedly I was not driving it a lot, so I took it to my local Chevrolet Dealership to check it out. The first thing they did after test driving it with me was hand me a can of BG44K and said "here, run a tank of gas with this in it through the car and bring it back if the problem persists". It did not persist, so I didn't bring it back - until their next sponsored car show. As we were setting up the evening before the show, the Shop Foreman came out and was walking around checking out the cars. I don't think he knew or recognized me, so I decided to engage him in conversation and asked if GM carried any Fuel Injection products he would recommend. He told me they did, but for anything other than preventative maintenance (which he highly recommended), he suggested I try a can of BG44K before throwing parts at it. He said it is all they use in his service department when they suspect a fuel injection problem. When I asked him how it was different than all the other products on the market, he said, "I'm not really sure, but I know it works!"

I do add a can/bottle of fuel injection cleaner to all my FI cars now at every oil change, typically Shell Techron Fuel System Cleaner (10-12oz bottle) and no issues in hundreds of thousands of miles. I do keep a couple of cans of BG44K in my shop for emergencies , but usually just to supply to friends or neighbors who think they have an actual problem.

I think BG MOA would be a good product to try if you wanted to try something other than Rislone this time. Try calling around before running to your local FLAPS, not everyone carries the BG product line. I think you'll be surprised at just who does carry them however.

I do apologize if this sounds like an advertisement, but I don't get as much as a discount on their products. , So if my local repair facility that carries it is out, I usually do what most folks do - go to Amazon...

Good luck... GUSTO

Great thing about MMO is, you can just pour a little at a time right down the carb as it idles. Let ur' smoke and nearly stall. Then add some to the gas tank. Great stuff!

MMO- I heard that if you rub some on your face it does wonders for preventing wrinkles.

I pour a half can of Seafoam into a tank of gas, every once in a while. It keeps my fuelie purring nicely.

It's all snake oil, but what can it hurt?

Back in the day, used Liquid Wrench in the yellow can. Not the blue can with teflon. Pour some in the oil but again, don't drive it. Worked like a champ! Any oil cleaner is risky though because it could dislodge more sludge. Change the oil several times at close intervals.

Boy does that bring back memories, back when I was a teenager and worked in the Chevrolet garage, we used to use that all the time during tuneups….. so many commuter cars were heavily carbon’d up, the stuff worked great.

MMO has been around for 100 years. I've been using it for 60 years in my older cars. I put it in the gas tank and crankcase. It does keep the engine very clean and free from varnish and gum up. I have a '65 Corvair and when I first got it,, it had a noisy lifter. MMO fixed it and all runs smooth now. Kerosene and some other products can free up chucks or partial chunks of build up that will stay in the engine even after oil and filter change. MMO is a tried and proven product
