My 63 327 340 was running great, until I came to a stop sigh and it started missing. I immediately though it was a spark plug wire that come off but it wasn't. Since I have replaced the plugs, new spark plug wires, rotor & distributer cap and fuel filter. None of this worked it still has that miss like a foul plug or SP wire off. I have not done a compression check that's next. Any other ideas.
Here is a quick test to see if all 8 cylinders are working.
Pull back all 8 boots on you spark plug wires at the cap.
Using a good test lead and a small screw driver or probe attach one end to an engine ground and the other end to the probe or screwdriver.
Now one at a time, ground the wire terminal starting with number one using my chart as an example. Make one of you own without the RPMs in the boxes.
Note the idle speed before you start, ground each one in order and let the idle stabilize between probes.
Enter the RPM drop in each box. As my chart shows #4 is the weak cylinder because it had the least amount of RPM drop.
The other two examples is what I have come across in the past.
This is the unit I use when diagnosing an engine issue. But the above method has the same results.
