Default 4 wheel alignment

I have a ‘67 coupe, L68, that I bought in September of ‘68. Completed a body off restoration in July 2013 using NOS Chevy suspension parts, control arms, trailing arms, etc. I lined things up as best I could but planned on having an in depth 4 wheel alignment done at completion of the restoration.
Four alignments (well attempts at least) over the next 8 years and it never really seemed to handle very well. It would drift to one side of the road or the other, oversteer when accelerating through a curve and just generally feel unpredictable.
While looking at the possibility of putting a C8 in the stable, the dealership owner and much of the staff were Corvette enthusiasts. Long story short and being the eternal optimist, took my C2 in for another alignment attempt but kept thinking I must’ve done something seriously bad to the car in putting it together.
I now have a brand new car! Rick Sedivy, tech at Lally Chevrolet in Cleveland, worked some serious magic on the car. The car is now a joy to drive.

Do you have radials on the car? And if you do, did the previous shops align it using the specs for bias ply tires? I’m guessing the shop that got it right, used the specs for radials, which are different than for bias ply. It’s not rocket science to align these, but if they used the wrong specs, it wouldn’t drive correctly. Glad you got it sorted out and can now enjoy your ride🍻

Curious what the specs are for each and why the specs are different between bias vs radials ? I switch back and forth as I like the look of both steel wheels (bias) and knock-offs (radials) so alternate from time to time. I do not notice a difference. Thanks in advance for your thoughts on this!

Radials work best with less toe-in that bias ply tires. For radials nominally 1/32" per wheel. For bias plies use the shop manual specs.

I've posted recommended alignment specs for both "touring" and "sport" numerous times.
