I have been fighting a loosing battle on getting the trim to fit around my windshield on my 65 coupe. i have bought new trim and in was not even close to fitting my car, i called the place i got it from and they said that was the best trim on the market and sent me serveral pages of instructions on how to make it fit, in including bending around my knee and cutting vees in the back side. i pulled the glass, cleaned out the channell, replaced the clips and had glass replaced. then the nightmares started non e of the trim i had would fit(old or new) and very little would stay in the clips. after many many hours and cussing i finally got close and glued on what i could. now its turning loose again. someone on here said the clips being sold were junk and new ones might be coming, has anyone heard of these and know where to get them. i'm at the point of wanting to do something about his again anyone have any hints or idea as to how to get it done????HELP A VETT BROTHER OUT PLEASE
The reproduction Trim is trash I’m surprised you’re having trouble with your original trim unless it is also bent once you bend the stainless trim it is very hard to get it back into its original shape. The clips they have been selling for years are nothing like the original I never heard of them coming out with the correct ones I am going to look into it.
Did you use your original clips? Last I heard, Paragon is the only vendor that sells the correct clips. Do you still have your original trim? All but the most bent up pieces can be straightened and buffed. If you have to replace the clips, the windshield will have to come back out. I wish I had better news. Jerry
As you have found out, getting the trim to seat fully in the lower corners is the challenge. In my experience, the trim has to be formed to exactly match the bend. Otherwise, it wants to pop up and even original clips won't hold it down. Getting that bend formed just right is where the "over the knee" and relief cuts come in.
If your original trim can be restored, that's your best bet. I do a test install with the windshield out, using Paragon clips. Not a 100% guarantee of success, but I don't know of anything better...
Here's how the driver's side turned out on my latest install.
The passenger side? Well, let's just say I'm glad I don't have to look at it every time I get into the car!
I found the clips dont have the same tension strength as originals, so i cut pieces of the rubber filler blocks used on rear window and trimmed each one to fit behind clip to hold it in correct position once all was trimmed and installed by trial and error, trim a little off or cut a new piece, once all pieces were shimmed correctly it snapped together like it did on the assembly line back in the day.. Just use plenty of tape to protect pain while fitting and trying.....a Pain in the- ss but when right it goes together easy.
