In 1966 the 250hp engine was dropped and the 300hp engine was made standard equipment. They called this engine "Regular Performance", in contrast to the higher HP engines designated "High Performance".
All C3's were good performing cars - the stock 250hp and 300hp engines were not slouches in the lighter Corvette. Cars so equipped, with 3.36 or 3.70 gears could out-accelerate a higher HP model to about 60 mph. After that, the more powerful C2 would leave it behind.
The low HP engines developed more torque lower down in the RPM band, making them better suited to driving in traffic and for the occasional romp between lights.
