Well, Decided to have the original rad in my 66 427 re cored. I perused the shop manual as I like to know what I am getting in to. As I prefer to work alone and not have to disturb any one if it can be avoided. I omitted two things recommend, left the hood on and did not use a helper. It is a ok job if you are a monkey and bare in mind I'm 72. Yes, I did have to sit on top of the engine. Would I do it again? probably but would not look forward to it, hope this new rad does not spring a leak. I did run it and all was good, will be looking for any green spots tomorrow LOL and by the way, its the fan shroud that is the bitch.

I just got done with the Rad in my 66 427 car, also by myself. I did have the hood removed though. I did it by unbolting the shroud (after removing the fan, clutch, and rad hoses) and moving the shroud rearward over the water pump and leaving it hanging. I was then able to remove the radiator by sliding it between the gap between the support and shroud.
Install was reverse and I was able to get it all back together without scratching everything up.
