I borrowed the below picture from someone, Thanks to whoever took it.
Anyways, I'm having issues removing the reverse lockout handle (whatever the T handle is called). I got the **** off and the spring off, but the handle is stuck. Any ideas? I know my car won't shift from first to second, so I started to remove everything inside the car to see if I could get to the shifter that way, instead of under the car.
I removed everything but the reverse lockout handle and the rubber boot that covers the tunnel. I will start looking into what's causing the shifting issue later.
Just thought of something - Could the reverse lockout rod be jammed causing the car not shift correctly and causing the reverse lockout handle not to come off?
You need to post some pictures of YOUR shifter so we can possibly discern your problem The shifter you posted appears to be a "faux" reverse lockout...possibly a Hurst shifter.
Well, I managed to get the reverse lockout handle off and the reverse lockout rod out. It was the bushing causing the issue. Still could not shift it, almost frozen feeling. I crawled under the car and inserted a drill bit into the lineup hole, don't have the flat opening, and that seemed fine. I was able to hand shift the 3rd and 4th lever with no issues, but I could not budge the 1st and 2nd lever. I removed the clip, pin, and rod but could not shift it by hand at all....pretty stuck feeling. At that point I came inside.
Two things I see. The pin holding the combs onto the side plate seems out too far. It has a C clip on the other end holding it.
That side plate is for a later Muncie. Should work, but that switch mount on the base of 3/4 should not be there.
I’d rattle the 3/4 lever to be sure it’s in the detent position, then turn the internals while trying 1/2. Next step gives you a chance to get the correct side plate. Will need to come off to verify shift fork and comb operating correctly.

Thanks pop23235!!! Can I do all of this without removing the tranny? I knew that side plate wasn't correct, but it came with the car.

How can I turn the internals while trying 1/2?

With both rear wheels off the ground, you can try the output shaft by turning a rear wheel. Input will require a helper with a band wrench on the front crankshaft.
You are also missing a spring clip on the handle pin in your second picture.

I spun the rear wheels and still can't budge the 1/2 lever. I don't think I can stand the idea of lifting the body off to remove the tranny. Just unbelievable....I had a guy inspect the tranny before I mounted it. There goes making Crusin-The-Coast this October.
I haven’t tried it, but I believe you can remove the sideplate in car. I’d research it, but sure would try before pulling it. I think you want 2nd gear to remove the forks with plate. Good luck.
Did you try turning the engine ?

Thank you! I didn't try to turn the engine by hand. I did crank it, about 2 weeks ago, and let off the clutch (NOT THINKING) and it jumped forward about a foot. Not sure if that would do the same thing or not. The tranny was giving me issues before I popped the clutch.
Not in two gears if it lurched forward.
Since you now know it’s in gear. Rock the car back and forth, clutch out (engaged) while trying the shift lever. Might shake it loose, but will need attention to prevent reoccurring.

Thank you! I will have to get some help to do this one. Just crawled under there to look at how easy or not, it will be to remove the side cover. Looks doable, but I know I need to drain the oil first or let it come out as I open it up.
One more thing, a couple years back I dropped the plastic speedometer gear into the casing, but most said that it would not cause any issues. Do you think that could be the issue?
I'd like to replace the side plate once I get this one off. I know Frankie talked about one, but when I went to find the one he recommended, in a previous thread (couple years back), I can't locate the company. He mentioned "tbtrans.com", but I think they went out of business. Any help finding a new and improved one will be appreciated!
