My 1966 body tag for interior trim reads 450BK, which I interpret to be white and blue, and is correct with my car.(Arm rest added)
Does the shifter console color come from the factory to match that tag, blue, or were they all black in 1966?
I think the black looks good in your car but it you want it to be original I think it is supposed to match the carpet. Someone had replaced the blue armrests in my car with black. I've changed them back to blue and need to repaint my center console as well. It's not black but it has a lot of paint chips on the flat surface.
I already touched them up and it looks better but one of my winter projects is to strip, mask and repaint the whole thing.

Your dash and Pads, your kick panels, your carpet, your center consul, seat belts, trim across the top of dash, should all be bright blue. Your seats, door panels, center armrest, sunvisers, interior quarter panels, headliner and all painted trim around the headliner is all white. If convertible you’re A pillers are polished, if it’s a Coupe painted white. Your steering column your dash cluster and your glove box are semi flat black.
