I need to replace the knock off wheel cones on my 66. Were the originals brushed stainless steel or brushed chrome? Anybody know who makes the closest repro? Thanks
I saw their listings and the pics don't show enough detail to tell the difference. You'd think the brushed chrome versions would be a bit more polished looking (closer to earlier cones) than the brushed stainless but that's just a guess.
Maybe contact their sales department and ask about it.
This is from the ZIP site...Note: 1963-1965 Corvette wheel cones were polished stainless steel; 1966 Corvette wheel cones were brushed stainless steel.

Since we're on the subject, is it okay to use aluminum polish on the repro knock offs (fins and outer rim) and stainless steel cleaner on the cones?
Well, on the wheels, you can use standard fine aluminum polish till they shine like chrome, but if you’re trying to match the original gloss/finish that might not be your best choice. On the cones, if they’re original/chrome cones, use the least amount of grit possible, it’s very easy to cut through the chrome and expose the nickel, or worse yet the copper. I don’t use anything more than car wax on chrome myself, unless I’m trying to remove a very fine scratch from polished chrome, and then I carefully use Meguiars Scratch X 2.0. On the stainless cones, (like the wheel itself), you can use just about any metal polish, or grit necessary to get the gloss you want.
