Just wondered what you guys are using for a jack. I have the original but not sure if I would trust it after about 55 years.
I noticed that a lot of the aftermarket jacks don't have a cradle. I thought of adding a cradle or fabricating one.
If the original jack passes a thorough inspection, there'd be no reason I'd hesitate to use it. It's not an item that should deteriorate solely from the passage of time. Does yours show signs of abuse, damage, corrosion, or excessive wear?
I guess I am extremely lucky after 50 years of owning Corvettes and driving them on a regular basis I have never had a flat tire! But I would not hesitate to use the original Jack which I have tested and it works very well.
I have used my original jack (previously tested) one time, and of all places, Carlisle. I place a 18"x8"x1/2" piece of Hardy Plank under it.I keep it behind my passenger seat.. Dennis
I have the original jack in the car but also have a bottle jack and breaker bar for removing lug nuts if necessary. Hope to never need any of them except in my own garage.
