I had a thought about shipping my C2 from Dallas to SoCal, driving up PCH and then shipping it back to Dallas. 30+ years ago I loved that drive. Obviously, I wouldn't do it right now since most of CA has lost its collective mind, but, I thought I'd work the numbers. I've shipped cars before. Never too concerned about minor damage. Last car I shipped was from Las Vegas to Dallas, $750 on an open carrier. Vette is a different story. First quote I got from Reliable Carriers, Dallas to Santa Monica, $2162 one way. I don't love the PCH drive that much. Maybe this is just a bad idea?
I grew up in western Massachusetts and have always wanted to ship my 64 coupe back so I could enjoy a beautiful drive through the fall colors. My brother lives there and has a C7, so driving together would make it that much more special. From where I am in Southern California, it looks like it would cost a small fortune to do so. But is $5K too much? Life is short, eh?

Memories go to the grave, money goes to someone else to spend. You earned it and if you want to do it, and can afford it, you should. One day you won't be able to do it and you will wish you had.
If your car is sufficiently well maintained to DO PCH, then it's in good enough condition to DRIVE to PCH, isn't it?
Confidence in the car is good. But, if the heat didn't kill me (no A/C) my copilot (wife #4) surely would. We just drove Dallas to Santa Fe couple of months ago. Not in the Vette. Route 66 is interesting, but, still not a PCH drive. I've made the cross country drive 3 times. Again, not in a 55 year old car. That was more than enough.

Um, I hadn't considered the spousal factor in the equation. You are wise to do so, however.
I've driven four vintage cars, three of them Corvettes from the right coast to the left coast. Wonderful experience. I'd definitely do it again.

Right you are boys. And no international vacations for 2 years helps. Skip staying at the Malibu Beach Inn... and it's a cheap trip.
Seriously. When the new governor has things under control and the COVID bullshit is dialed down... I'll shoot the lock off my wallet. Though I might shop for a shipper a bit more.
