hammer?
did not remove metering rods, does that matter?
I am trying to remove the top - while mounted on the intake - to free up the accelerator pump, because it is not starting unless I prime it - I would think it would pull up over the Air cleaner stud, screwed into the base, not the top, if not, there's is my senior moment..............
Plaidside - You are the man! I just went out to the garage, and yes, it has that hole, and yes there is a screw in it that I missed, will take it off tomorrow and that will do the trick - thank you Corvette buddies - I did not see that at all - big help..........now onto why the pump are clogged preventing it from starting............

A couple of thoughts.
The accelerator pump is usually made of leather. Before installation I soak it in oil while I am assembling the rest of the carburetor.
Make sure the spreader spring is in place.
Below the squirted make sure the check ball or pin is not stuck in the passage.
Make sure the 'S' link between the pump shaft and the throttle link is oriented correctly.
