when i try and push my horn button a lot of times it does not work? sometimes it does work. sometimes i have to try and push the button in another area and
then sometimes it works and sometimes it dont work? does this mean there is a short or something preventing the horn from working; this is very frustrating
when i try to blow the horn and nothing no horn it does not work? is this something that i can fix or do i need to order some kind of horn parts or contacts?
any help is appreciated. thanks
If you had a short, the horn would blow without pushing the cap. You have an OPEN connection on the black wire that shorts when you press the cap to make the horn blow. You need to pull the cap off and take a look at the metal horn contact and button to see why it isn't shorting them to the metal of the steering column (ground). It can be as simple as the horn cap is not pressed on correctly, so not making contact, or the spring loaded horn button (brush) that goes down to make the contact with the upper bearing to provide the ground to the horn contact is loose, dirty, spring broken, etc. Once you pull the cap off, take a screwdriver and touch the fingered horn button and the steering column at the same time. You'll just have to look at it to see why that contact isn't getting grounded when it should.
Assuming you have a 66 from your user name, and you didn't specify anything different in your question, and also taken as fact that if you push harder the horn blows, the problem will be at or very close to the horn cap.
