Default speedometer needle trembles

speedometer needle trembles for a month although I installed a new speedometer shaft. At the transmission input is also a new 90 degree gear between speedometer shaft and gear installed. The speedometer was also overhauled last year. The speedometer cable is not bent on the way from the gearbox to the speedometer.

Mine is starting to tremble a little two after many years. I suspect it from the cable either needing to be lubricated or the inner sheath wearing out at some point(s). Cable driven speedometer issues can be a real chore to pin down and solve.

IIRC, mine did that and when I had the cluster out, I cleaned the case with a stiff wire and a tiny piece of cloth pinched in the end soaked in brake cleaner. Ran it in and out several times. Very visible amount of crud was removed. Problem solved. Dennis

after removing the dashboard I found the error.
For both the tachometer and speedometer, the drive shafts purchased from ZIP in January 2021 are absolutely unusable and wrong. I can only recommend everyone to check or not install these new parts before installation.
The connection to the tachometer as well as the speedometer is faulty because even when tightening the screw, the shaft still has about 4 millimeters of space and thus wobbles.

On the other side of the shaft, the inner shaft is too short and wrong contrary to the picture in the catalog where it is shown as it should be.

Furthermore, the shaft is too short for a 67 Corvette with Muncie transmission and the connection on the passenger side. ZIP does not distinguish between shafts for transmissions with the connection on the right and left. But in the catalog of Corvetteamerica the difference is mentioned.

ZIP states that all parts are correct and ZIP does not see any problems with them.

Finally I had two shafts made at a local company according to the original parts and they now fit exactly.
ZIP has been eliminated as an unreliable supplier for me.

Alfred
