I'm trying to get the trans fill plug out on my trans. Can't do it with a 9/16 wrench. What size special socket do I need so I don't strip this?? I ordered a 8 point socket and also what Dads 67 427 suggested.

SUCCESS ! ! I used my new 4 point pipe plug socket with a 1/2” breaker bar and finally got to hear that sweet snap sound where you know it came loose and didn’t break.

Glad it worked out. For anyone else reading this, I had very good success getting my stuck plug removed pretty easily after applying heat from a propane torch around the plug. Try to keep the heat off the plug and play the flame on the aluminum housing immediately surrounding the plug. I don't recall how long, but think it wasn't more than a minute of heat and it broke loose without grunting.
I had one of these in my pile of old tools that I never use, not even sure where or when I got it. It works perfect on any size square plug or nut, won't round corners or slip, works even if corners are rounded. Has no teeth to dig or damage. Still available, check this out.
