Default 1958 Soft top

Hi Guys;
Has anyone ever converted a 1961/62 soft top to fit a 1958 car.
I have the orignal top and frame for my 58 but its really bad condition, rust etc.
I also have a 61/62 top that is better. Hence the question above.
I know the ridge line in the trunk on 61/62 does not work, but could it be changed to a 58 piece?
Thanks for your help.

Weeeellllll, sorta.....

Years ago, I grew frustrated trying to make the original soft top frame fit my '60. Nothing I tried would make the side pieces over the door windows lay out straight.

Out of nowhere, I got a chance to buy a compleat '62 softtop at a reasonable price. Changing nothing except the rear latch bails, I put it on my car and it fit perfectly. I mean perfectly. To this day, no one has ever noticed the little notch in the rear to clear the '61-'62 wind split.

So, yeah, I've done it..... sorta.

But to your point, I don't see why you couldn't buy just the '60-earlier rear bow from somebody like Sully and graft it on to a '61/'62 frame. AFAIK, the rear bow (and of course the cut of the fabric) is the only difference between '61/'62 tops and '60 and earlier tops.
