Door latch question
Dear forum members,
I have a '65 coupe. Intermittently, After opening the doors, then trying to shut them, the latch hits the door striker thingy, and makes a loud thud and bounces back a number of inches commiserate with how aggressively you tried to close the door. It seems s if the latch is somehow closing itself. I'm sure that over what is probably a short amount of time, this will damage either the door, the door striker bolt thing, the latch, or all three. Is this a common problem? I have only owned this car for a year or so.... Is there a good fix, or do I need a latch replacement?

Remove the latch. Soak it in lacquerer thinner and get it cleaned very well. Then use some good grease and give it a lube job.
