When attaching the emblems on my '66 I put a small ball of "dum dum" inside the speed nut and then install it. Judges have told me they see no evidence of "dum dum". Is there a different way of using "dum dum"? What are they looking for and how do they determine there is no "dum dum"?
If they're looking for evidence of dum dum, they're probably looking for a small amount of "squeeze out" from around the shaft and the nut, and possibly a small amount of the same from beneath the nut. That'd be the only "evidence' that would be visible . . . .
If you don't have a bit of "squeeze out" you may not be using enough inside the nut to seal totally around the emblem shaft . . . . . that would be the only way I know of to be certain that the shaft was sealed from outside moisture.

My point is where all the emblems are it makes no difference for water intrusion. I think the only time dum dum was used on emblem studs on Corvettes is for the 427 emblems on 67 BB hoods.
