Default Installing Engine

I am ready to install a 327 in a 65 vette. Does anyone know what the torque specs. are for the pressure plate, does the flywheel bolts have lockwashers on it, and how do I install a new dipstick tube? The dipstick tube end which slides into the engine is too large. This is a GM tube. Do I need to freeze the tube to install it into the engine? I appreciate any help in this matter.

Flywheel bolts should be 7/16 - 20 and they do use lock washers. Torque to 60 ft. lbs. Pressure plate bolts are 3/8 - 16 and use lock washers. Torque to 35 ft. lbs. (These are per 1967 shop chassis manual). I don't know for sure about the dipstick tube. I have had some luck installing them using a 7/16 boxend wrench around the tube and tapping the wrench with a small hammer to force the tube into the engine block. I'm sure freezing the tube would help. The tube needs to fit tight in the block to ensure you don't have an oil leak and also to keep it from twisting or pulling out of the block when you pull the dipstick. Hope this helps. :seeya

OEM flywheel bolts have captured star washers as part of the bolts; aftermarket flywheel bolts (like ARP) don't use any lock washers.

Thanks for the help withthe bolts. Do you know how to get the new dipstick tube installed in the 327? Do I need to feeze it to get it to its smallest diameter?

In the plant, we used a tool in a "burp gun" that bore against the top of the upset in the tube to drive it in - took about two seconds. Lacking that, a box-end wrench and a hammer (or burp gun) are probably your best bet.
