Default Engine determination

Without the original engine is there a method to determine which engine may have been born with my 65??

Don't know if you can figure it out 100% but is the gauge cluster original? What is the tach redline? what is the oil pressure gauge 60 or 80lb? if it were a big block car there might be some tell tells in the firewall? Is the rear end stock original check the stamps? Can you determine what the original trans was?

All answers might help narrowing the possibilities.

size of sway bars, existence of sway bars, number of leafs in your rear springs, number of turns in your front springs.. maybe components of your engine? manifold dates? carb? some might have been kept when the engine was swapped out. check the c2 registry, power steering? factory AC? check your radiator support/shroud.
some points can determine what it was or what it wasn't. plus what Cork said above...
