Default Scale models

Back when I was younger, I used to love building models. Even in my late teens and early 20s I still bought quite a few ( never acknowledging that I didn’t have the time to work on them…. I got rid of most of them, given to a friends kid that was into car models, but I kept a few.

reorganixing my garage last night, I came across a large box that contained, among others, three (3) Monogram/Revell 1:12 scale 1967 L71 Corvettes…. I also have a 1:12 scale 69 Camaro that U shaved the emblems and was going to drop in one of the 427 to make a ZL1 COPO….

so now I realize I can use the small block to model my L79, and the Camaro’s Rally wheels will stand in for my wheels

(69 center caps, but oh well)…

ironically, I had even started modifying one into a convertible. It was damaged in storage, but it can be saved…. At least now I have the full size to use for measurements.

Most of my models met their eventual demise as subjects of experimentation with various explosives.

Nice. Do you have a pic of the model box top? Would like to find that kit.

I like the Convertible effort. I thought of potentially pulling a mold from my 1/12 Diecast, for one of the 1/12 Monogram kits.

I wanted to model the three Dana Chevrolet cars in 1/12.

These two and......

Ironically, my daughter (17) gave me a model for Christmas this year…. It’s a 69 Chevelle ( I have a 66), as it was the only one the girls saw at the store ( no Corvettes either)..

it truly is the thought that counts!

found another 12+ models sitting in moving boxes in my garage…. I have too many hobbies!

I just thought it was kind of ironic…

I have wanted a C2 for years (decades), buying these in the late 1980s….

then when I finally bought my real C2, it turned out it was a 67…. I figured with my budget I was going to end up with a 63 convertible or 64 project…

I don't know much about building models. I know more about dating models in my younger years.

That 1/8th scale '65 is the only one I don't have. I've been building and collecting models for about 60 years, and have more than a hundred kits, promos and die cast Corvettes. I also have two full sized Corvettes, a '64 L76 and a '76 L82. Just cannot have enough of them. They are a way of having all of them. Great hobby. FYI, all the correct factory colors are available in airbrush acrylic enamel from MCW paint & supply online. Promos are a little pricey, but the kits are plentiful (possible exception are the original-issue '63-'67 AMT kits). A good source is ebay. Just another way to enjoy the Corvette experience.
