As an alternative to using the centre fastener in the camshaft pulley to hand crank, an alternative is to place a small link chain inside a garden hose wrapped around the pulley and then turn the engine with a pinch bar (or similar). The chain prevents the hose from stretching and the hose is soft enough to grip the pulley. Image attached.
Looks like it will work on the crankshaft with the belts removed. I am guilty of using the fan belt to rotate the engine when the plugs are out and even using a socket on the alternator fan nut. R66 doesn't have the crankshaft bolt, so I made a spanner type wrench to fit in the holes of the stock sheave / pully, although it will scratch the paint.
Pretty sure he must have meant crankshaft pulley. My brain does that to me all the time. I’m not sure what a pinch-bar is though.
