Hi Everyrone,
I recently began my attempt at replacing the trailing arm bushings. After 13 years the poly bushings fell apart in my offset trailing arms. When I went to install the new bushings (with stock rubber ones) it seems that the stock bushings are slightly larger than the ones I removed. Does anyone know if VBP made offset trailing arms back in around 2009 that used a smaller diameter bushing than the stock size? If so does anyone make replacement bushings in that size, preferably a rubber bushing or maybe even Delrin? I believe VBP is no longer in business so I cant go directly to the source to ask this question.
Thanks,
Matt
You can ask Van Steel, they should have bushings. Many of the offset arms used a smaller poly bushing. If you have one of those and want to use stock bushings you will have to fab up a larger diameter sleeve to accept the stock rubber bushings or weld in Johnny Joints
As suggested call Van Steel. I replaced the poly bushings in my offset trailing arms with rubber bushings from VS. i think I there were two different sizes.
Hopefully this is what you requested. Here is a pic of the bad bushing. I got 13 years out of it. I understand others got less so I will try not to complain. Once I receive my new bushings I will post some pics. If there is anything specific you want me to post a picture of please let me know.
Thanks, looks like the stock bushing diameter on those arms so new rubber should install fine. I was more curious to see if you had the smaller bushings some offset arms have and what replacement rubber bushings would look like.
Stock bushings will not fit, They are slightly too large. I spoke with Bairs and Van Steel and both informed me that I have to use the slightly smaller version of the poly bushings. Van Steel indicated that these newer poly bushings will last a lot longer then the previous ones. If I understand correctly either the formulation and / or the process of how the poly bushings are made has changed since I last bought these (13 years ago) so I am hoping they will outlast me this time around.
ah, interesting. That was my thought, If I was going to do that, I think I would fab up the sleeve for the rubber bushings. Good luck please post a picture of what they look like.
