A friend of mine has a quick jack as he does not have the hieght needed for a 4 post, and he basicly says the same thing you guys are saying & yes, he has had his car nearly slide off of it as well. He was going to lower the car & flipped the safety latch forward on one side, then moved over to the other side and flipped that one clear, then as he was lowering the car, the one safety latch did not fall down, it fell back into the locked position, but he did not realize it until his car started sliding off of the lift as he lowered it.

He calls it "completely his own fault" as he heard the metal saftey latch fall, but did not visually confirm that it fell forward out of the way, when it actually fell backwards into its locked position, which basicly makes the same noise, so be very careful & be very aware this potential exists.

He owned gas stations & a motor remanufacturing shop for 40+ years before he retired, so its not like he isn't used to cars on lifts.

I have helped him do many things on his car underneath this quick jack & while it seems fine & is much better & higher than jack stands, it's definitely not very confidence inspiring knowing that he's almost had his car slide off off it, so just be very, very careful making sure you have it securely set with the safety locks latched & unlatched properly as well. I definitely prefer my 4 post!

Does the width of the rails that contact the frame of any vehicle to be lifted cause the sliding effect? It would seem that for not much money a fix could be fabricated ?
I am not understanding how this situation is happening.

I too would like to see how the jack surface interacts with the frame rails, my '60 frame rails near the front don't look flat.
Thanks!

The front rails on my 64 where they meet the side rails are not flat. I put the rubber block so that it is sideways to the car which makes it longer from side to side. This way it is on both the side rail and the cross rail and that gives a very solid grip. In the rear, I do the same thing where the side rails meet the cross rails. Also, by turning it sideways, it allows the longer rubber block to conform to the varying surfaces.

I've had mine for years with no problems.....you do have to be careful with hoses but really it's just common sense. My only annoyance is that it won't go down all the way by itself and the pressure cylinders have to be pressurized too frequently.

I vote for a good HD floor jack and four car stands positioned on the frame. Cheaper and MUCH safer.
OSHA should outlaw these things. Or go a 4 post.

My complaint is the structure limiting access from the side. Anyone know of a 4-point bottle jack sort of system that could be placed under each shock or the frame (reminiscent of an Indy car)?

Had mine for several years. The only time I ever experienced a "malfunction" was when I stopped for several minutes without it being on the steel lock bars. My fault, started to drop on one side but grabbed the controller an hit the up button in time to re-level.
Since I can't do a post lift in my garage, the QuickJack and a good creeper have allowed me to work on the C2.

Fatdaddy
wasn't there a link in this thread to the pictures of the casters? What happened to them?

I’ve had my Quick Jack for a few years now and have never experienced a problem. Just a couple of points to consider however. First of all, these jacks are heavy. I store mine vertically against a wall in my garage. While there are casters one one side, it’s still a bit tedious getting them into position under the car. Secondly, the fluid reservoir is made of plastic which expands and contracts when the jack is operating. No issues with that either, but I’d prefer metal.
