Tach quit working
The tach in my 67 L79 with 8572 MSD distributor quit working. I lubed the cable a few months ago with cable ease and it has been working great. Bounced a little until I finagled the cable to the right place to stop bouncing. Yesterday, it worked great on the first drive. Then, the second time I took it out for a drive, the tach had stopped working. I pulled over and found the cable end at the distributor was loose. Tightened it up, but no tach. Got back and saw that the brass adapter was still there for MSD, and put a drill on the cable. Nothing at the tach.
Took it out this morning and noticed a faint ticking sound around the tach. So, removed the cable, expecting it to be broken, but it was not. When I took it out from the tach, under the dash, this blue piece of plastic came out with the cable. Can I press this back into the tach or does anyone know what this is? Thanks.

As far as inserting that blue piece - here's my question - was it rounded or did it get rounded out because as JF said the cable needs to be square. In your picture the size of the blue end looks equal to the size of the cable that's why I asked if it may have been square before your incident.
