For those who have installed a TKO/TKX, I have a question. Reading over the instructions for install on my TKX it says to remove the shift tower before install. Would this still be necessary if I have a removable crossmember or is there another reason?
I removed when installing with the original fixed cross member. I was installing as one unit with big block motor and TKX transmission. I don’t believe there would be space to install without removing. With a removal cross member it should much easier. You might need to provide more information if you are replacing with the motor in the car or as I did with one unit.
I'd say you can leave it on since you don't need to insert the transmission horizontally in the tunnel to get over the crossmember. It's a real pain to reassemble once in place especially the dust cover.

You should be fine with leaving it on with a removable crossmember and going in as one unit.
Thanks Jeff. Should be going in this weekend. Will the rubber seal on the tail keep the fluid in or do I need a different plug if I fill the trans before install?

If the shipping plug is still installed, it will hold the fluid for a pre-fill. Just be warned, if the trans is tilted down, fluid will run out when that plug is pulled.
Level the trans before filling and it's just like a differential; fill it until it starts to drizzle out.
