Default 67 Backup Light

I installed a one piece rear clip on my 67. I am having trouble figuring out the backup light. It seems the metal part goes inside the glass, and the lens outside. The part I can't figure is what do the speed nut pins attach to? Does factory glass have 2 layers back there, or is there a bracket that I don't have? Thanks, Tim

Default back up lights

The metal fixtures mount from the front with the speed nuts / only thing in back are the speed nuts and the ground. Hope this helps Jeff

I thought I did this already, but don't see it. Apologize if it is a duplicate. I installed the lights and the lenses stuck way out beyond the body. I tried just the lenses, wiwthout the metal light and they still protruded. I think the recess in the rear clip is too shallow? I will order new lenses as mine are warped, but I don't think that is the issue. I tried shaving the lenses and got closer, but still not close.

I think I need to cut out the back panel and recess it another quarter inch. The rear clip is from ACI and I had to do extensive work around the doors that was unexpected. Anyone have a better idea?

The lens bracket in post #3 looks different than yours . . maybe you could cut down the lens screw post?

I think that is just the angle of the photo. Besides, with the metal lamp totally out the lens still protrudes from the opening

Well if the rear end was still off the car it would be easy enough to re-glass it . . but seems now that it is installed it might be easier to modify the lens and lens holder. Or possibly cut lens size holes in the back recess and mount metal straps to hold the recessed lens at the proper depth.

I agree that I don’t think the pocket is deep enough for lamp assemblies. I can get you a depth measurement tomorrow. Since I painted my light assemblies black, to match my stripe, these pics are kind of hard to tell the depth. I’m making mine both a third brake light and backup light.

Had a similar issue with mine , protruded a bit over 1/8th inch, glued sandpaper to a flat hard surface an sanded the back of the lens for a flush fit .

Here is what I have learned, and my fix:
You can't just shave the lens because the screws have a shoulder which prevents them from going too deep.
The pocke was so shallow that even without a gasketI was over a quarter inch proud

I decided to cut out the pocket and deepen it. Plan was to go too far, then shim back to flush. Didn't quite do that.

Here I have cut the pocket with cheap multi tool from Harbor Freight. I cuts just 2/3 of perimeter, wedged open and tacked that side with a strip of glass inside
When dry I cut the rest and tacked it. You can see the quarter gap I needed, but that didn't allow for what was lost to saw blade.

Here I temporarily installed the lights, and then put strips of glass around the pocket on the inside of the rear clip.
After that I used some left over bonding cement to fill the gap around the external part of the pocket.

Here is finished result. Still a mm or so proud in upper right corner.
I drilled the screw hole in light a tiny bit and that let the screw pull lens in pretty good. Not concourse, but none of my other work is either,
I may put a thin strip of glass over that bonding cement when I disassemble for painting, but have had enough of looking at this for a while!
