Just another example of articles written by people that know little about these cars . Reminds me of the Curated Content posting that regularly appear on this forum.

Responding to my own post..... While Roy Orbison was part of the Traveling Wilburys, there was a documentary video made about the band. Tom Petty, also a member, was interviewed. Talking about following Roy Orbison in the recording of some song, Tom Petty noted that having to do that was "intimidating".

The talent in the industry referred to Roy simply as “THE VOICE”
There is a concert they run on PBS every so often called the Black an White Concert with Roy as the main feature and an unbelievable number of other musicians that wanted to be part of it with Roy. Catch it sometime and you will be impressed.
The also said that Roy was a perfectist and could pick out the most subtle things in the band that HAD to be corrected to record.

My best friend from high school’s uncle played in a garage band with Roy. Roy approached him one day and said’ I think we could go on the road and make some money ‘. He told Roy ‘no thanks- you’ll starve to death just making music’.

I have them on my iphone...
Roy and a schoolmate friend of mine here in Bernie were both recording at Sun Studios for Sam Phillips back in the 50's. Roy actually introduced my friend to Sam and got him under contract. Turns out neither Roy nor Narvel Felts had much success at Sun, Sam had too much talent to handle already. Think Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Presley, Carl Mann, and numerous others. Roy told Narvel that when his contract was up he was going elsewhere to record, and suggested that he should do the same. Both did, Narvel released several on the Mercury label and had moderate success through seven decades, 1950's through 2019's, but not as successful as Roy turned out to be. You can Google Narvel Felts for more info . . . .
The two met when passing through LaGardia airport in NY some few years back, and Narvel said Roy's first words were, "Why Narvel Felts, I haven't seen you since the Pink and Black Days!" You older guys will know about the Pink and Black days . . . . .
Narvel was telling the story to his guitar player at a later date and he suggested they write a song about the Pink and Black days. They did, and it turned into the title song for the album, Pink and Black days. A Sirius radio personality (I've forgotten the name) was about to do a series and needed a title for the series, and instead of titling it Memphis Music or some similar called and requested permission from Narvel to use the "Pink and Black Days" title instead, and that's why now there's a segment on the Sirius 50's channel titled "Pink and Black Days."
Those were the days, I sure miss playing the clubs and bars we used to do, very few if any I can think of are still around . . .

I have heard this many times. That says something, doesn't it?

My dad was a 25-ish y/o program director at a small TV station KVKM in Monahans, Texas in the 1950's. Roy was from Wink, Texas a few miles away. My dad put Roy and his early band on live TV (that's all they had) for the first time on a Saturday afternoon, weekly talent program on that little po-dunk station. My dad and Roy became good friends. I remember being at Roy's parent's house with Roy and my mom and dad, and Roy was just another average nice guy!..I now wish I'd saved all the Christmas cards Roy sent us thru the years....

A lot of cool Roy stories here.
BTW I HAVE A 4 CD set by Roy AND GREATEST hits of the Traveling Wilbur’s. So sad that George Harrison, Roy and Tom Petty are no longer with us.

They reached the End Of The Line.
