We’ll from what I heard here there were no 942 blocks in “65 do’s if it’s a F date month it’s a super early casting. But they all went in ‘66 cars whether they were impalas or vetted. Sound right? So a June or July block might more sensibly be bound for a very early production ‘66 car build of October, but probably not Nov/Dec if I’m hearing all this right.my car is in the 7000 range.

Steve - Not that it matters for this discussion because your question deals with a #942 block trying to determine when that block was cast, but just out of curiosity, per Factoids comment...is your block a 2-bolt or 4-bolt?
And, if suspected of being a 4-bolt, do you happen to have a pic of the large oil cooler passage just above the oil filter pad?

Motor was completely opened on rebuilt 6 months ago. 4 bolt main. I’ll check for the other thing you ask

Since you've already confirmed it is a 4-bolt block, then you will definitely see the large oil fitting on the side of the block, just above the oil filter pad.
Here's a pic of a 2-bolt block in that area and the center and forward hole on a 4-bolt block are bigger. Unfortunately I don't have a pic of the 4-bolt block threaded holes in that area but if you can reach down with your cell phone, it's easy to take the pic.

Here is the four bolt main block (as Keith pointed out, mine is missing the 90 degree fitting in the oil pressure gauge line). The plug circled in blue is one of the best indicators it is a four bolt main block.

Learning a lot here. Thx guys. I found a post from John Z many years ago on this forum that showed this picture saying 2 bolt mains did not have the lower front hole tapped. Is that the determining factor, or the size of the holes? Mine is tapped on the lower front, middle plugged, top right tapped but open. I’ll get a good pic of mine. Again, not sure I really care much but since we’re riding this topic out I might as well keep learning.

No 65 cars got 942 blocks they were new for 66 models.

like I said. I have never seen a June or July block casting date for a 942. They earliest I had ever seen was a early Aug block for a very early car- Like vin #200. According to what a read they were supposed to be cast in July but I have never seen one.

Post up a pic of the stamp pad.
