Default new style spare tire size?

Put new Cooper whitewalls on my '64 but the 205-75-15's won't fit in the spare tire carrier. I have searched the archives and found that the Chevy S-10 will work but I can't find one in my area. Somewhere there was a post of a modern tire with the proper diameter for our cars but now I can't find that post. What modern size tire will be the same diameter as the 205's and still fit in the carrier?

I read somewhere a while back that 195x75x15 will work...also, cannot remember if it was this tire or not, that if your car has posi DO NOT run it on the rear...

Hope this give you a starting point..

If the OD is too large to fit the tub have a tire store shave down the tread. Go as far as 2/32" if needed. You just need the spare to get home.

If it's too wide for the cover to close, get the longer front hanger bolts that were used with KO wheels.

Use a tire from a TR6. It fits the rim, has the same diameter and is thinner and fits right in the tub.

The donut spare in question is T155/90-16; it's OD is slightly <27". Rim is 16x4 & fits just fine in midyear Corvette tub. Also, readily fits over '65-'67 calipers without interference. Any year ('83-'04?) S-10 Blazer, pickup, GMC equiv, 2WD or 4WD, other GM vehicles used this same unit. Try Car-Part.com search 'wheel, w/o image' '16x4 compact spare' for wrecking yards with same, arranged closest to your zip code. Found mine in Canon City CO for $25.
