Hello and a Happy Easter to everyone!
I am looking for someone to deliver my freshly painted 65 coupe from Eastern Iowa (zip code 52254) to zipcode 38488 (Taft,Tn) @ 25 miles from Huntsville,Al.
I contacted Reliable/ Intercity and they replied," you are OFF our routes"!!
I do not have the number nor remember the name of the guy who delivered the car to me from Florida back in 2011,and he may very well have retired by now.
I contacted an individual last week who has an ad in the April issue of Hemmings ; says he lives in Illinois, has 25 years experience, will haul 1 or 2 cars anywhere, but he has not retuned my call!
The guy who painted my car was going to deliver it to me ,BUT, the derecho in august of 2020 destroyed his trailer!
Thanks for any leads you can direct my way.
Rick
Rick - Back in early June of 2021, when I bought my 66 NOM L72 from a guy in Florida (I'm in Arizona), I first contacted two companies I had used in the past, Intercity and Reliable who both told me they could not give me a time frame for pickup other than to say it could be anywhere from 2 weeks out. I also tried Plycon who said the same thing and Horseless Carriage who didn't respond. I did sign up with Reliable and the hope was that they'd have a truck out that way (Central Florida - The Villages) within a few weeks but no guarantee. As for paying a deposit, I've used Intericity twice, once was a single 61 Vette from Austin Texas to Northern California, full payment up front, next time from NorCal to AZ, an empty truck to haul '6' vehicles and again, full payment up front and then Reliable in late 2019, a single pickup from Portland to AZ and full payment there too. In this case, after a few weeks with no calls coming from the Large Haulers, I came across a somewhat local restoration shop down in Mesa that also hauled cars in their tandem enclosed trailer. There are reputable haulers out there with their CDLs who are insured and might possibly do the haul for you. When I came across this small hauler down south, I called Reliable and cancelled the contract and was refunded the full amount quickly. The end cost was about what the large companies charged.
Any nearby custom car shops around you might call to find out who they use for shipping?
Good Luck,
Mike T - Prescott AZ
My 67’ is being shipped to me by Passport Transport. Price was fair and car quickly picked up, just 7 days. Just waiting on it’s arrival from Michigan. I’m in California.
Uhaul still rents open car trailers. Enterprise rents pickups if you don't have a SUV or the like. Always an option to just make a road trip and have some fun.
I rented a u-haul transport to deliver my "pre-painted" car; BUT now, with all the time, effort AND money spent on the car, I do not want to take any chances with an
open trailer!
