'58 Signet Red paint code
I am repainting my '58 Corvette. The paint shop couldn't find the correct color code for Signet Red, so the shop took a small sample of the original paint from the hood, polished it, and scanned it with a color matching tool. The car required quite a lot of bodywork, so they painted only the interior, and the car is waiting for the exterior paint for a few months to ensure that body repairs are good. Anyway, both the interior and the sample look pretty orange in the sunlight — a very light red color with an orange tint. It's been years since I have seen a newly painted red 1958 Corvette, so I don't remember how it should look. A comparison would be helpful, but C1s aren't very common in my country.
Please look at the pictures and tell me what you think. Is the light orange tint normal, or was the sample just sunburnt? Any tips where I could find the original color code would also be appreciated. Thanks!

I have a 1958 with the Signet Red interior. It is painted in acrylic lacquer as originally came on the car. I am hunting for the right paint to repaint one panel and to also do touchup. I am in California---no lacquer is legal in my state and cannot be shipped here. I found that Corvette Central carries the Signet Red lacquer in a spray can. I bought some, but it does not match. It is too pink. CC sent me to the manufacturer to see if the right color can be mixed and sent to me. We have not yet concluded this process. In the meantime, I am trying to see if paintscratch.com can provide the accurate color paint. The sample on their website looks extremely close to what I have on my car. I don't know if they have lacquer available. Local painters here can mix some urethane to match the color, but it is way too shiny vs. original factory gloss. OK if you like the "wet look". BTW, the original Signet Red is quite orange, with a hint of pink. Some people have said it is a little like coral. Anyway, stand by. I will share whatever I find out. Chuck

Have you asked if your local paint shop has a paint scanner tool for color matching? If you have the correct color sample (rest of the car), your paint shop could just scan it and mix the right paint for you.

I see paint chip sheets for sale on Ebay all the time .... Since you are in Europe, this might be the easiest way for you to get an accurate color sample.
