Fuel level sending unit
My friend and Forum member bought a standard vendor reproduction and it reads 7/8 of a tank even when the tank is full up to the neck. We took it out of the tank and checked the OHM readings through the full swing of the float arm arc and the OHM readings are indeed off. Another friend of mine (also a Forum member) found a new configuration sending unit advertised as a GM Restoration unit from one of the corvette vendors. We ordered one and it OHM's out to spec so we installed it in my other friend's gas tank. I will report back here when he fills his tank and reports the levels as the tank empties of gasoline. We will see how it goes. I have copied the link to this new configuration sending unit in case you want to try it out. Both the locking cam and the rubber O ring are reproductions so those may be the Achilles Heel in the configuration. We are praying that it doesn't leak.
I have included a picture of it after we installed it in the gas tank. Good Luck with it. C.J.

The one from Zips is definitely Chinese made and not the same. I called Zips before I ordered from the other vendor because I wanted to give the business to Zips if possible but the salesman at Zips checked and confirmed for me that the unit they sell is made in China.
The "GM Restoration Part" designation at the other vendor caught our eye and that was a big impetus for us to buy from them. If the float swing arm had not OHM'd out correctly then we likely would not have installed it. It is always better to have an original restored or rebuilt if possible. Tri Starr LLC is currently backlogged for 16 weeks and are no longer accepting any OE fuel sending units to be restored. John Wolfe and Company lost their restoration guy and no longer does them that I am aware of. At least one of our Forum members has restored his OE unit himself and has posted a nice "how to" here on the Forum.
Hope this helps. C.J.
