You know that split ring at the top of the steering column that provides pre-load to the bearing? The one Tom Parsons points out you should not drop and lose? Well, someone somewhere somewhen lost mine. (Probably me years ago) Anyway I am totally rebuilding my steering and front end and I need the split ring, but it is not in any of the rebuild kits that I have seen. Does anyone have one they want to part with? Is there any substitute?
Thanks

This may be a long shot, but try Doc Rebuild. They show one for 67/68. It looks like you are referring to a C-1? They also show a two piece split ring mounting bracket for 53 to 62. I have no idea what the current status of Doc Rebuild at this time. Jerry
Many of us looked for years and none were ever available in the after market. Allegedly there was a Danchuck bearing kit for other Chevys that included it but that wasn't the same size.
I came up with a idea to make them from a old upper bearing but never got around to it. The idea was to break the old bearing apart and use a Dremel to cut it around its perimeter and then slice it to make the slot. If you have a old bearing maybe you could try it. I found the old thread here with the photos I took...
