[C2] Adding a Leather Boot
After removal of the necessary items including the retainer plate and the old rubber boot, I began the task of trimming the boot to fit the retainer plate. Once that was done, I re-installed the boot over the shifter followed by the retainer plate. I loosely installed the screws allowing for the retainer plate to be lifted up enough to "tuck" the edges of an ebony leather boot (from a C6) under the retainer plate. You may want to make "slits" in the leather boot to allow for the screws and get an adequate amount of the leather boot under the retainer plate. Once you have "tucked" the leather boot under the retainer plate, check to make sure that the boot position allows for full shifter travel. At this point, locate each of the screws (by feel) and make a small cut to allow for screwdriver access to the screw and tighten each of them. The leather boot opening will be loose on the shifter but with a little effort will slide over the top (or opening) of the new rubber boot "snuggly". The travel (of the leather boot" will be limited because of its fitment on the rubber boot but it seems to be a nice addition and does remain low enough on the shifter to not interfere with access to the reverse lockout. At that point I reinstalled everything and re-assembled the shifter.
I hope this helps anyone who is thinking about adding a leather boot to their C2
