63 Roadster HELP

Has anyone ever changed the deck lid hinge spring lower retainer on a 63 roadster? The car evidently sat out and got water inside which caused the deck lid springs to rust out and break. The lower spring retainers were rusty also, so I decided to change them. Got them out finally, but evidently there is a backing plate on the upper hinge retainer. One of them is fine, but the other one came loose and just rattles around inside. Anyone ever come across this and any ideas how to go about fixing it? I am not looking forward to cutting into it as I am already using a mirror to see up inside. All comments welcomed please.

Thanks, guess I am just dumb, can,t find anything on replacing the nutplate that the hinge bolts to.
