Default Differential issue??

When driving at moderate [say 40-50] speed on a very good road surface, there is an occasional clack from the rear end [differential I think] and the rear of the car twitches very slightly. It's as if drive to one of the wheels is lost for a millisecond, or almost as though one of the rear wheels has skidded very slightly. Has anybody experienced this, or read about it?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Deteriorated rubber bushings in the trailing arms and the camber rods will give a twitchy feel to the rear suspension. It might be a good idea to verify all those bushings (six total) are in good shape before doing anything else.

Along with Jim's terrific recommendation, check and make sure the shim packs are in the place for the trailing arms.
