I'm needing a set of steel wheels so I can continue to use the '63 hubcaps. The attached picture is what I've read so far. My questions are:
Since my car is a drum brake 1963, am I able to go with any/all of these combinations? Will they all fit without issues?
Am I understanding correctly that the 6.70 and 7.75 of the tire size is the width (6.7" & 7.75")?
Is there a rim & tire size that would allow me to run wider tires without the tires rubbing the fenders (want all 4 same size)?
Buy a set of 15 x 6", +.030" offset reproduction Rally wheels. They should accept the '63 OE wheel covers. Tire section widths above are approximate and vary with wheel width they are mounted on. Acceptable radial sizes are 205/75R15 and 215/70R15.
My 63 had rally wheels when I bought it with original hubcaps-putting original hubcaps over the rally wheels are to tight for original caps-the person before me who did it ruined the caps pounding them on because of tightness.
I had no trouble with OE '63 wheel covers on 15 x 7", -0.28 offset '68 Corvette Rally wheels.
They were a tight fit of both the OE and Rally wheels. Getting them started was sometimes a bit tough, then I used a soft (pine) 4" long 2 x 4 section to slowly pound them on with a hammer, going around about two or three times to get them fully seated, and I never had one pop off.
