Wow I've never heard of that. Usually you hear how to get your chrome to look better. You sir march to a different drummer with wanting to make your chrome look worse. Perhaps if you could hook up with those other guys and switch?

Yes. Drive behind a truck hauling gravel for as many miles as necessary to achieve the look you are looking for. Or, find someone to trade with you.

Take them off and sell them to the guy that needs a set like that for his glazed restoration.
Buy a set more to your liking.
If you try to dull them with 00 wool use bronze wool however start in a very inconspicuous spot first as you may not like the results.
