I find the styling of the 53-56 Austin Healey 100 very similiar to the 56-57 Corvette. A familial likeness.

The Ingrid Bergman 375MM uses the classic cove treatment on this 1954 Ferrari. You have to believe GM stylists piggybacked on this design. This has to be one of the most beautiful cars of all time.

There is not a lot of resemblance in most of these old cars simply because they were competing companies building these cars at the same time in an era that often changed the body DRASTICALLY each year.

On the other side of the coin you can only bend metal or form fiberglass so much in a given amount of space so naturally there will be SOME similarities in any body the same size

IMCO you picked a great picture to support your thoughts. I agree the silhouettes are very similar both top line and bottom line. I don't think the same would apply on full front or full rear views though.

There is always someone trying to compare Corvette styling to some other car, WHY?
There are only so many ORIGINAL thoughts, designs, etc in the world so certainly designers just like every other artistic person in the world have been borrowing certain features to incorporate into their own design. This is a Corvette forum that should celebrate these old Corvettes especially the midyear design as a timeless, iconic design and not be concerned about some small part of a different car that reminds them or our cars.

There is some resemblance from the side. 10 inches difference in wheel base and the corvette is for sure wider. Great looking cars!

Both great looking cars..... the photo does highlight one of the things that has always bothered my about the coves on the C1, though..... why did the designers make the top of the cove angle so much at the door?

Why not a graceful curve across the top the Austin Healy???

Maybe too much time in drafting class and architecture studios, and being enamored by those who could draw graceful curves damaged me??? lol

Joe it is nice to see the 57 again. What a beauty. I really do miss everything about the car. So glad that you are enjoying it.

Take care

Yes I see what you mean. Never thought of it that way. Although, from what I read, Harley Earl was influenced by the European sports cars at that time and felt Chevy needed to have a response.

Maybe GM designers also kept in mind the "gills" for when the Sting Ray came along.
